Should I repair my Maytag 1994 stacking washer/dryer or buy a new one?

My Maytag 1994 stacking washer/dryer agitator stopped working and smelled like it the motor was burning up. It makes a whining noise and won’t move. I assume repairing it might cost $500 or more. Is it worth it?
I guess it depends.
My husband and I have repaired our Kenmore washer more than once on our own.
There are tons of helpful sites online to help you figure out the problem.
Our washer and dryer are 11 years old and still up and running!!!
Our costs have typically been less than 35 dollars. One time it was only 6 bucks!!!
I would try that first.
I wouldn’t bother fixing it. At that age there could be allot more parts on the verge of breaking down.

No, its not worth it, you could buy a new one for 500 bucks, maybe not a maytag, but who cares.

As a rule, if you smell smoke, a burning or melting it’s time to replace. And should you do so, invest in another Maytag so that your next 10 -15 years of laundry will be worry free.

Buy a new one, less hassle and will be under warranty for a few years, I don’t think fixing the old one will be worth the $ and stress. At least with a new one you know what your in for cost wise. You could fix the old one and have to replace it in a year anyway, then you have wasted $.

If you are planning to stay in the house you are in and you do laundry a lot (meaning you don’t have a lot of stuff that goes to the cleaners) then YES it is worth it. There are many washer/dryers that have new technology and very easy to use. Some can hold up to 16 pairs of jeans.
If you are happy with Maytag than continue to use that but GE, Kenmore, and whirlpool are other great brands.
