1970′s Maytag Washer – So Far So Good
Clips of first run of the rebuilt Maytag washing machine in action.
No leaks. Smoothe run.
A result of my rainy day boredom. Enjoy.
Comments welcome.
Replaced water seal, tub seal, tub bearing. the rest was still good.
Machine cabinet was near mint, very very little surface rust in the bottom, nice shiny gray painted metal. The black you see is black-asphalt undercoating. It dries up nice and prevents future corrosion.

That was great to …
That was great to see that old Maytag running so well. I had two and enjoyed them both. One of them was slowly being put back together and the other actually had several parts wear out simultaneously. I miss both of them.
Funny thing is, I was looking at a newer (1995?) era Maytag and it was pretty much the same inside as these old standbys.
And yeah, then they went and made the Neptune…whoopsy.
Great video, 5/5!

Does the spin aid …
Does the spin aid the pump in draining the drum ?
I was kinda wondering before microprocessors how did the machine know which function, when and how did it advance, vacuum system ? I found 2 leaks, at the the bleach port on the tub, replaced the hose, nicer hose clamps, and the injector was shot, spraying water, replaced with an injector kit $40.00. lucky thats all it was. I’m hoping not to ever face seals and bearings, but on the other hand it would be cool to be able to do those repairs myself
it is a spin and …
it is a spin and drain meaning it begins to drain and spin at the same time… you may be used to newer machines which tend to drain the water down before engaging the spin
Just out of …
Just out of curiosity , is it supposed to start spinning with that much water in it…… at about 2:11 ?
Back when things …
Back when things lasted. The last 10 years, appliances have sucked big time! I’d rather use a 40 or 50 year old machine than the one I have today.

Our 9 month old high-dollar Maytag washer started leaking all over! Even into the electronics!! Very dangerous!!!! We called them E-mailed them and they honestly could have cared less!!!! No kidding!!! Even said,,, WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR SERVICE CALL!! DO NOT BUY ANY MAYTAG OR WHIRLPOOL products They have gone way down hill since 2006!!!! Does your timer …
Does your timer have a Permanent Press cycle? Later models did but older models didn’t and the timers are not the same.
We have the 606S …
We have the 606S machine, but now the motor on the timer’s shot, and they want $250 to do a rebuild. Is there any place out there that would have a used part, and how difficult would it be to replace the new motor on the timer? Right now we’re still using the machine, but advancing it by hand can be tricky. Had a couple of near overflows.
Great video and great machine, though.
