Should I repair my Maytag 1994 stacking washer/dryer or buy a new one?

My Maytag 1994 stacking washer/dryer agitator stopped working and smelled like it the motor was burning up. It makes a whining noise and won’t move. I assume repairing it might cost $500 or more. Is it worth it?

I guess it depends.
My husband and I have repaired our Kenmore washer more than once on our own.
There are tons of helpful sites online to help you figure out the problem.
Our washer and dryer are 11 years old and still up and running!!!
Our costs have typically been less than 35 dollars. One time it was only 6 bucks!!!
I would try that first.

how much should I sell my used maytag washer and dryer for?

I live in califorina they are in really good condition and are a couple years old. how much should I sell them for in a ad?
I was thinking 200.00 is that too much or should I ask for more?

I would think closer to $150 or $200 each, if they are fairly new and in good condition.

Long Hair on Clothes-How to remove in washer/dryer?

My long hair gets all over my clothes and my kids clothes. How can I remove the majority of it from the clothes while they are in the washer or dryer vs having to remove the hair either by hand or with a sticky lint brush?

I noticed that when I used static guard on fabrics I was sewing, that cat fur just slides right off of it. I was using it because I was sick of getting zapped with static electricity. Maybe that product will help with some fabrics. It was polyester that I used it on. Other fabrics tend not to get static like that.

It sounds like you are shedding more hair than is normal. Just commenting – I used to have long hair too, and it did get on things, but not like it is for you, sounds like. I guess I did favor ponytails, and that probably helped.

How to check used washer & dryer?

Im looking for a used washer and dryer locally.
When looking at someones…Other than just looking at it and taking their word what else?
Do I suggest we sit there and let it run to make sure it works?

Well you are the customer/ consumer so I think you have the right to check them out. I suggest you bring a wash cloth or something small, get it wet and toss it it the dryer, Listen for squeaks (a lot of times it’s just a belt and those are cheep ) while it is turned on. With the washer on the other hand (if it is still hooked up) make sure the water fills and then turn it to the spin cycle to make sure it drains. If it’s not hooked up do the same (small wash cycle) but bring a 5 gallon bucket and hook the cold water up, and hold the drain line in the bucket. All said and done it will only take 15-20 min. most people will be ok with that. If not, let them try to sell their junk to some sucker but you wont be the sucker.Good Luck hope this helps.

About my washer & dryer. I just bought a used washer & dryer; it was VERY cheap and works great.?

Lately, I’ve been noticing a mildew-like smell in the washer. I’m not sure if it’s my water or something I did. (the water in the rest of the house smells fine.) I tried running bleach through an empty cycle and it didn’t take the smell out I know you get what you pay for, but is their way I can fix this? Anyone have any ideas on what I could do?

since its used check to make sure there isn’t a left over wash cloth or other item that got stuck under the washer or that there is a small leak somewhere. also check the lint basket, some washers have them just like dryers do and make sure you check up under the rim above the washing barrel, sometimes lints and debris can get stuck up under there. it takes very little to get that mildewy smell. also try running either baking soda through it, 1 small box in the regular cycle, no clothes though, then make sure you run a rinse or oxyclean detergent. hope this helps

How much extra money per month would you value a washer/dryer in your apartment in nyc?

I am trying to compare a few apartments, 1 has a washer/dryer in the apartment the other doesn’t. There are other factors which I will leave out but the location is essentially the same (across the street for each other).

So how much extra money per month do you think having a washer/dryer in your apartment should be?

Assume the base apartment per month is $3000.

How often do you do laundry? Every week? Every two weeks? Then think about that trip to the laundromat, how much is your time wasted there? 3 hours? How many loads do you do on average?

Personally… the washer/dryer in your apartment is so much more worth it than not having it, I hate the idea of people looking at my dirty undies.

1970′s Maytag Washer – So Far So Good

Clips of first run of the rebuilt Maytag washing machine in action.
No leaks. Smoothe run.
A result of my rainy day boredom. Enjoy.
Comments welcome.
Replaced water seal, tub seal, tub bearing. the rest was still good.

Machine cabinet was near mint, very very little surface rust in the bottom, nice shiny gray painted metal. The black you see is black-asphalt undercoating. It dries up nice and prevents future corrosion.

Is there such a thing as an apartment friendly washer and dryer?

I live in an apartment and would like a washer and dryer that doesn’t require those huge hook ups, that can possibly drain in the bath tub if need be, or plugged into a regular outlet. This may sound foolish, but i’m a fool dammit.

You can get the stackables, but watch for water discharge connectors and how the dryer vents. If you get the kind on wheels, they can be stored in a closet, wheeled over to the sink where they are connected to the faucet and drain into the sink or tub. You also have to watch the drainage because some of them jump out of the sink if it is not well secured when the washer cycle drains the drum. They do make ventless dryers, as well. Some of the manufacturers use a window or door vent which requires moving the unit to vent it while in use. All of these options do use a regular outlet to operate. Some energy efficient names to look for in down sized units, Siemens, LG, whirlpool, and kenmore,
