5 Great Ways To Lower Blood Pressure Using 1 Great Fruit

November 6th, 2009

Have you had your lycopene today? If you ate a green salad with fresh chopped tomatoes, then you not only got a healthy dose of this powerful antioxidant, but you have also taken significant action toward lowering your blood pressure. A recent double-blind study conducted in Israel has confirmed what hearth-healthy Italians have enjoyed for centuries – tomatoes (and tomato sauce) lower blood pressure and the risk of heart disease.

Dr. Esther Paran, head of the hypertension division of Soroka Medical Center, led up the Israeli study. It involved patients who were already being treated for hypertension, but were not responding well to the medications. Dr. Paran had patients take a supplement of tomato extract. The results were a significant drop in blood pressure after just four weeks.

Tomatoes are so effective at lowering blood pressure because they contain lycopene. This potent antioxidant is even the focus of some hybrid tomatoes grown by the Israeli company, Lycomato, in order to have higher concentrations of lycopene in each piece of fruit. Other antioxidants found in tomatoes make this one super-food in the prevention of heart disease. It can even help keep LDL cholesterol from oxidizing which makes it stick to the arteries and narrow the passage way causing blood pressure to increase.

Even during the peak growing season it can be difficult to consume four whole tomatoes each day, which is the recommended amount for having a positive impact on blood pressure. Here are some ways to get the benefits of tomatoes without having to eat them straight off the vine.

1. Make Chili. Using tomato puree, which is a concentrated form of tomatoes, as the base for your chili utilizes the antioxidants without the bulk of a whole tomato. Add some ultra-lean and high protein ground bison and kidney beans with minced garlic and onions, and cayenne pepper and you have a heart-healthy main course and a full day’s allowance of tomato.

2. Since using olive oil with the tomatoes enhances the curative quality, make your pasta sauce red with tomatoes, tomato paste and olive oil to sauté the garlic and onion. Tomato paste used in making sauce contains more than 10 times the nutrients of a single tomato.

3. Have a fresh salad as a side dish to either of these entrees and cut one whole tomato on top. You’ll get one-quarter of you tomato intake right there.

4. Drink tomato juice. It is better to make your own fresh juice so that you can control the sodium. Store bought juices can be high in sugar and sodium-based preservatives. If you have a juicer, you can make some incredible veggie juices to suit your own tastes by adding carrots, celery and some low-sodium seasonings.

5. Take a tomato supplement. If you just can’t stomach tomatoes, then a 200 mg supplement provides the equivalent of more than the recommended four tomatoes.

Adding tomatoes to your diet can reduce systolic blood pressure by 10 points and diastolic pressure by 4 points as was evident in the Israel study. Whatever way you slice it, tomatoes will keep strengthen your immune system and Lower Blood Pressure.

How long does it take for Amlodipine to start noticeably lowering blood pressure?

July 29th, 2010

I was just recently given a prescription for hypertension. At first, I was being given hydrochlorothiazide to help lower the fluid levels in my blood to help with lowering blood pressure. It helped some, but didn’t quite do the trick. So, now my doctor has recently prescribed amlodipine which is designed specifically for blood pressure treatment. How long does it take before you start noticing a drop in blood pressure?

I was on amlodipine for a year once my hypertension increased, but due to another increase in BP my meds were changed again, and I’m keeping an eye on it now with my own BP monitor. I was told that an increased dose of Amlodipine from 5 to10 mgs[ whatever is the max. check the leaflet in the packet] would take 2/4 days to register an improvement. Don’t take more than the recommended dose even if you feel you need more. Wait !!! it should work if you give it time, but if it takes longer than one week I would go back to the doctor again.

can someone please tell me if this essay is correct, I need to turn it in as a final by Saturday?

When it comes to a healthy life style I’d say there are three major things to consider, eating healthy; like watching your carbs, eating your 5 times a day meal routine. Exercising in order to prevent your body from becoming weak, for exercise you may join team sport, do outdoor activities. The third thing to consider would be reclaiming relaxation, learn what causes it, the effects it has towards your health when leaving with stress, and how to deal with it.
Consider the following when it comes to what you eat “All you have to run on is what you put in your mouth. The quality of your fuel and, therefore the quality of your performance depends totally on what you eat and drink. It is essential, then, to learn the best possible fueling strategy for the best and longest- lasting performance.” If your daily activity is eating fatty foods your most likely to have very low energy for performing your daily activities, you may feel tired all the time, difficulty concentrating, and many other symptoms for not eating properly. Concentrate in the following and avoid them “foods high in fat, cholesterol, salt, sugar, and alcohol. They will cause obesity, clog your arteries, and raise your blood pressure.” Try to eat foods low in fat, cholesterol, salt, sugar, and alcohol. They will improve your looks, benefit your health, and improve your mind. When you eat healthy foods, such as; vegetables, grains, plenty of water, dairy products and anything else on the food pyramid. Making sure that you eat the right portions and not over eat, you may find yourself with plenty of energy that you will not know what to do with, your focus on activities will be top nudge, you will retain much more information. Overall you will feel great when you eat healthy things.
When it comes to sugar products “avoid them” they may be delicious and all but as the saying goes “what tastes good is bad for you” Having sugary foods and drinks too often can cause tooth decay. Doctor Terry Grossman from Grossman Wellness Center states that “When you reduce sugary foods you will reduce (blood fats) better known as triglycerides and increase HDL, the beneficial, heart-protective form of cholesterol, which can be even more important in reducing heart attack and stroke risk.” So say goodbye to sodas, replace them with regular water on a glass of milk. If you are craving sweets grab yourself a fruit whether it be a banana, apple, orange, or any fruit available to you instead of going for any chocolate, donut or anything that has unhealthy sugar. Sugary products don’t provide the necessary fuel that your body needs for the healthy life style you’re looking for.
As you may have heard many experts recommend that you eat 5-6 small meals a day, why? You may ask. “When you eat 2-3 big meals a day you overwhelm your metabolic system. Not eating for more than 4-5 hours at a time slows the metabolism and your body begins to think it is starving. Food gets digested slowly and more fat is stored as an energy source “just in case” no new food comes through for a while.” “When you eat smaller portions and more frequent meals through out the day is beneficial for a healthy digestive system, weight loss and having more energy.” When talking about a small portioned meal would be a portion of cottage cheese mixed with a portion of fruit or yogurt. If you have not time you can always replace your meal with a meal replacement shake, which come in both powder and ready to drink form. If your follow these steps mentioned when it comes to your eating habits you will surely notice an increase, in energy, mind focus, weight, body shape and much more. Yes, I won’t lie it may be difficult at first but once you got it the results are breath taking.
Second when trying to lead a healthy life styles the next thing to consider and follow through is exercise. “We all unconsciously know that exercise is good for us it is fair to say that everyone wants o be healthy. At the same time, it is probably equally fair to say that most of us are not exercising enough.” It’s also said that people who are physically active live longer, since exercise helps the body maintain fit, strong and healthy to fight of illnesses. Cardiovascular disease is prevented by exercise, as well as heart disease since it lowers blood pressure. Also “The University of Illinois researches have found that Physical activity may enhance the academic achievements of children by improving their attention and working memory skills.” Many positive effects come from exercise in can produce new brain cells that can help with memory function and learning, keeps your weight in control, it prevents and controls type 2 diabetes, and much more.
When exercising I’ve myself realized that my surroundings affect my will power to start an exercise routine. My parents actually have a treadmill, exercise bike, and many more exercise equipment. But I find it difficult just climbing on the equipment and finding myself going nowhere, jus

Your essay has great facts and support, but your grammar needs a little help and your sentence structure lacks the fluidity a generally well written essay should have. Your examples are sometimes too overbearing, and I find it difficult to take in all the words. If you want to better your essay, I think that perhaps your paragraphs should be simplified in a way that makes reading easier but effectively shows your knowledge on the subject.

Also, the last paragraph is a rather off topic end to the essay that is rather unsatisfactory the way it suddenly introduces your way of a healthy life style. If the essay’s topic to begin with was about your style, then the best way to go was to first mention your life style and support it with your facts above.

Edwin Loh: Tips on Healthy Weight Loss: Low Fat Diet and Organic Food (Part 2)

Top 6 Benefits of a Whole Foods Diet

Increased Fiber Consumption:

Whole foods such as broccoli, brown rice, almonds and oatmeal are great sources of fiber – with six to fifteen grams per serving. Compare this to most animal products which contain no fiber.

Fiber aids in moving wastes from the body and keeping the digestive system clean and functioning properly.

Less Fat Intake:

A whole foods diet includes foods, such as fruits, vegetables and grains, that contain far less fat than a diet which includes animal foods. In fact, even low-fat meals can often have twice as much fat as a whole foods meal.

A lower fat, whole foods diet can help keep cholesterol levels down, reduce the number of calories consumed and help increase your health and vitality.

Decreased Sugar Consumption:

A whole foods diet, which includes a variety of natural complex carbohydrates, is typically more filling and will decrease your desire to eat processed sugar products – which will also decrease your overall food intake.

More Nutrients:

A whole food diet contains plant foods that are a richer source of nutrients than animal products.

Variety of Foods:

The variety of fruits, vegetables, grains, seeds and nuts that are available on a whole foods diet is almost endless. This variety leads to a greater consumption of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that perform health-promoting functions in the body.

Great Satisfaction and Less Overeating:

The whole food diet includes a wide variety of foods that are dense in nutrients and fiber. These whole foods require more time to properly chew and eat, which results in the consumption of fewer calories. More satisfying meals leads to less overeating, which in turn leads to an optimal level of health and longevity.

It’s evident that the benefits of this type of diet far outweigh any benefits that may be derived from a diet which includes predominantly animal products. In addition, a whole foods are less harmful to the human body.

Nutrient Balance

Carefully planned nutrition must provide an energy balance and a nutrient balance.

The nutrients are:

* Proteins – essential to growth and repair of muscle and other body tissues
* Fats – one source of energy and important in relation to fat soluble vitamins
* Carbohydrates – our main source of energy
* Minerals – those inorganic elements occurring in the body and which are critical to its normal functions
* Vitamins – water and fat soluble vitamins play important roles in many chemical processes in the body
* Water – essential to normal body function – as a vehicle for carrying other nutrients and because 60% of the human body is water
* Roughage – the fibrous indigestible portion of our diet essential to health of the digestive system

What are the daily energy requirements?

Personal energy requirement = basic energy requirements + extra energy requirements

Basic energy requirements (BER) includes your basal metabolic rate (BMR) and general daily activities

* For every Kg of body weight 1.3 Calories is required every hour. (An athlete weighing 50Kg would require 1.3 × 24hrs × 50Kg = 1560 Calories/day)
* For a calculation of your BMR, see the calculator on the Resting Daily Energy Expenditure (RDEE) page

Extra energy requirements (EER)

* For each hours training you require an additional 8.5 Calories for each Kg of body weight. (For a two hour training session our 50Kg athlete would require 8.5 × 2hrs × 50Kg = 850 Calories)

An athlete weighing 50Kg who trains for two hours would require an intake of approximately 2410 Calories (BER + EER = 1560 + 850)

Carbon Dioxide
A colorless, odorless, incombustible gas, CO2, formed during respiration, combustion, and organic decomposition and used in food refrigeration, carbonated beverages, inert atmospheres, fire extinguishers, and aerosols. Also called carbonic acid gas.
Carbon dioxide in its gas form is an asphyxiant, which cuts off the oxygen supply for breathing, especially in confined spaces. Exposure to concentrations of 10 percent or more of carbon dioxide can cause death, unconsciousness, or convulsions. Exposure may damage a developing fetus.

Exposure to lower concentrations of carbon dioxide can cause hyperventilation, vision damage, lung congestion, central nervous system injury, abrupt muscle contractions, elevated blood pressure, and shortness of breath. Exposure can also cause dizziness, headache, sweating, fatigue, numbness and tingling of extremities, memory loss, nausea, vomiting, depression, confusion, skin and eye burns, and ringing in the ears.
You may be more affected by exposure to carbon dioxide if you have a cardiac, lung, or blood disease or condition.
